Inheriting A Dog…
September 25, 2009
It is amazing how attached a dog can become to someone. We got Lily from my Grandma who could not longer care for her. We think she was a rescue dog as the Veterinarian called my mother-in-law because they knew she loved Shelties (she already had 4 of them), and asked her if she would take this dog.
Of course she agreed and she owned Lily for about 4 years, then her health deteriorated and we took Lily. Lily was very depressed when Grandma left her, but she was able to visit her in the nursing home at least 3 times a week.
Lily became attached to me very quickly. When we got her, she was 33.3 pounds – quite overweight from being fed out of the fridge. We got her on an all dog food program twice a day. It was quite an adjustment for her. Now, almost 3 years later, Lily is a trim 26.3 pounds having lost 7 pounds slowly through diet changes and walks everyday.
We have had to adjust to having a dog — our cat Scamper was not too happy! Lily is a little “crazy” as well. She spins alot. If you chat your hands, turn on water anywhere in the house, turn on the vacuum or the blow dryer – she goes nuts. Now it is a game we all play with her.
She is very loving and is never far from my side. I am not used to having something follow me around the house every move I make. And when I go out and come home, she races to greet me – only me.
I hope you enjoyed the story of Lily – the non-stop shedder, but loveable dog.
